Bubble-bursting information is super easy to find nowadays. But back before the internet, you would have to enter a library (big building with books and records) and actively try and break your own bubble.

Luckily, there was a network of older and younger siblings that passed all that terrible goodness on to unsuspecting kids via recess and long waits for the bus.

(Most recess facts were very unreliable.)
