THE PLANT WHISPERER
(In this story, my mom’s dialogue is translated from Spanish.)
My parents can grow anything. As a kid, it didn’t seem like a skill I could get behind. But today, it’s like watching Mozart at his best… but with plants… and it’s my parents, not Mozart.
It’s not an exaggeration to tell you that you can literally fall out the front door of their house and land in a delicious salad. Or wave a stick in the air and be pummeled by fresh fruit juices.
My mother’s knowledge of old-world medicinal herbs and vegetables is pretty phenomenal. She can, and has, cured a high fever with cold sewed tomatoes.
By the way, Verdolagas (Purslane) are an amazing superfood you should get to know. And they’re free in most dirt-filled areas.
