RED LIGHT

After the revolution of 1821, the centuries old monopoly on the ice cream trade held by the Spanish Crown in Mexico fell away making it possible for any ol’ Jose-seis-pack to create his own frozen treats.

My apa took advantage of this freedom to start his own ice cream business at the age of twelve (Although the age got younger the madder he got at our apparent laziness)!

Ironically, he never made, or approved of spending money on, ice cream at home.

I wonder if the Spanish Crown threatened him at some point.
