Back before TV and the internet there was "idle hands."
People back then had all this free time and energy to do stuff you wouldn't normally do because your show was on. Like...learn the harmonica.
I haven't met an aunt or uncle or older cousin that can't play the damn thing. I tried a couple of times and then a good show came on and I was gone.
If we're sitting around a camp fire and I don't whip out a harmonica to play an awkward blues standard, you can thank any rerun of Happy Days or Lavern & Shirley for sparing you the pain of that performance.
